About

As in past years, once again my colleagues from the Association and myself were greatly impressed with the talent heard at the IASJ Meeting in Lucerne. It was very fortunate to have the Swiss Radio offer to record some of the pieces rehearsed and performed by the ensembles, an activity we have done in past meetings and feel is important for students to experience a fast recording session, very much what they will confront when they enter the real world of playing to come. The groups are formed at the beginning of the week based almost entirely on geography, attempting to mix countries and schools as much as possible. The students are pretty much left on their own with the goal of an end of the week concert and recording of a representative piece in mind. It is exciting to hear such great talent coming together for a few days, rehearsing and presenting such a wide variety of genres. My appreciation to all the participants and people at the Hochschule Luzern who made the entire week possible. – David Liebman (Artistic Director of the IASJ)
